I’m at the SSS branch in SM Aura and they’re playing Chrono Trigger music over the PA system. Needless to say, it caught me by surprise!
I remember a few years ago during the televized UAAP games they’d play Final Fantasy battle music between commercials. Does anyone else have anecdotes about hearing game music out of the blue?
I was at my Uncle’s farm and he asked me to deliver some chickens to trade for some fish, a couple of houses down by the farm.
I was walking and I’m hearing a familiar tune, and I realized it’s Burn My Dread from Persona 3. It was coming from an MP3 or cellphone inside the pocket of an old man.
The old man was tending to his plot and singing it, though he misheard some of the lyrics.
“Burn my Bread~~”
Our local radio station was broadcasting a “radyonovela”, and our housekeeper would always be listening to it in her pocket radio. Everytime there was a break or a pause, I would hear one of the tracks from my first FPS, Halo.

ABS-CBN or GMA played one of FF8’s tracks.
Not sure how long ago that was.
One of ABS-CBN’s cheesy teen dramas once used a track from Final Fantasy IX. This was about ten years ago though. I doubt they got permission to use it.
Oh man, not only BGMs, but also sound effects from video games are used in telenovelas. Man those things are waaaaaay out of place for a drama.
We used two songs from Final Fantasy (Main Theme and Crystal Theme) for the entourage and bridal march in our wedding. :)
We also played an orchestra version of “The Moon” from Ducktales during our Reception.
I heard music from the Sims on an episode of RuPaul’s drag race.
That noon time party show at GMA (or ABS CBN) used to play Kingdom Hearts 2’s Agrabah theme during summer. They played it during the commercial to show transitions.
I remember turning the TV on and hearing music from Final Fantasy 8 being used as the background music for one of those cheezy soap operas
I heard Xenogears music once on ANC.
